Aim π―
At FUNDA, our top priority is to ensure that every child under our care can play, learn, and grow in a safe and secure environment. While we take every measure to prevent accidents and incidents, we understand that they may still occur. This policy outlines the procedures we follow to ensure any incidents or accidents are properly recognized, recorded, and managed with the utmost care.
Accident & Incident Response Procedure π
We are committed to providing high-quality care to all children. All staff members at FUNDA are required to complete paediatric first aid training within three months of starting employment. The majority of our staff hold a Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Certificate, ensuring that at least one qualified first aider is on-site at all times.
Accident & Incident Recording π
We keep a detailed record of all accidents and incidents that happen both on-site and off-site.
The Management Team regularly reviews accident statistics to identify trends, address potential hazards, and make necessary adjustments to keep children safe.
The Senior Leadership Team reviews these records on a quarterly basis to ensure safety standards across all sites.
Reporting to Parents π£οΈ
Parents will be informed of any accidents or incidents involving their child while in our care. Notification will be given after the incident via an incident form and reiterated in person at pick-up.
If required, we will take appropriate action and follow up on any concerns raised.
Accident Reporting & Recording π
All accidents are recorded in an Accident Report and stored safely in a Digital Accident/Incident Folder. These records include:
Time, date, and nature of the accident β°
Details of the children involved πΆ
Type and location of injury π©Ή
Action taken (first aid treatment, follow-up) π οΈ
Circumstances of the accident, and names of those involved π§βπ«
If a serious injury requires emergency treatment, we follow our Sickness, Medicines, and Emergency Treatment Policy.
Incident Reporting & Recording β οΈ
Incidents such as theft, fires, or attacks are recorded in the Digital Accident/Incident Folder. These records include:
Child or person involved, time, and location of the incident β°
Triggering event and nature of the incident β‘
Actions taken to resolve it π§
Witnesses and any follow-up action, including any insurance claims π
In cases of certain incidents, such as theft, fire, or bullying, we ensure that they are reported, documented, and addressed. This also includes incidents like attacks or serious threats.
Serious Incident Notification π¨
In the event of a serious accident or incident, the Site Leader will immediately notify Senior Management. We will also notify the appropriate authorities:
Ofsted (For serious accidents or deaths) π: 0300 123 1231
Health & Safety Executive (HSE) π: 0845 300 9923 (if applicable under RIDDOR regulations)
RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases, and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995) π
We comply with legal requirements by reporting certain incidents to the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). This includes:
Fatalities and major injuries on-site π₯
Serious injuries leading to hospital treatment π¨
Injuries requiring more than seven days off work ποΈ
Dangerous occurrences that could have caused injury but did not β οΈ
Follow-Up Actions βοΈ
We analyse all accidents and incidents to identify areas for improvement.
Adjustments are made to practices, procedures, or facilities to minimize the risk of recurrence.
We ensure that all staff members are aware of any existing injuries when children arrive and that appropriate first aid measures are in place.
Our commitment is to keep children safe, healthy, and supported while theyβre in our care! πΆπ
